Summary
For the last few months, debate has raged online as to whetherPersona 5: The Phantom Xwill be coming to the West. Changes to Steam’s backendsuggested a PC release was imminent, but theabsence of an English-language optionexacerbated fears that the mobile and PC title wouldn’t be making its way to these shores. A separate developer livestream, which suggested the game was almost complete, alsoindicated the game would be getting an English release, adding to the confusion.
Thankfully, it looks like all of that confusion is about to come to an end, as Atlus West is teasing some Persona-related news, which could be linked to an upcoming Persona 5: The Phantom X developer livestream.
Atlus West Is Seemingly Teasing Some Persona 5: The Phantom X News
In a new post on the Atlus West social media accounts, the team said, “Think you dropped this…” followed by an emoji of an owl. This was followed by the words “Stay tuned!” and an image reminiscent ofPersona 5, with bold black and red colors.
While the tweet had fans clamoring fornews about Persona 6, it’s almost certainly not that. The next mainline game in the series will have a new color scheme, reportedly green, and the owl emoji is a tease aboutLufel, an owl-like character who plays a similar role in The Phantom X to Morgana in the mainline Persona 5 series.
It has beenconfirmedthat new information for P5X will be announced during a livestream on Thursday, May 15, at 7am PT/10am ET/2pm BST.
The reception to Persona 5: The Phantom X will be interesting. While it has all the hallmarks of a traditional Persona game, it is fundamentally a gacha game. Therefore, many of the core mechanics and some of the content will be locked behind time gates and paywalls. This includes the numerous crossovers the title has seen, including those with Persona 5,Persona 5 Royal, andPersona 3 Reload.
We wenthands-on with Persona 5: The Phantom X at Tokyo Game Showlast year, and said, “Despite having never played a gacha game before, the signs are promising, and it’s a game that I’ll be diving intoif and when it heads over.”
