Persona 5: The Phantom X Is Definitely Hitting Western Shores

For months now, Persona fans have debated the likelihood of a Western Persona 5: The Phantom X release. While initially, it was confirmed to belaunching worldwide, there was never any confirmation that it would be getting an English release. The game was then added to Steam, but it only showed support for Japanese and Chinese languages. During a developer livestream last month, the Phantom X teamseemingly hinted at a Western release, but nothing was confirmed, at least until a livestream today, in which Atlus confirmed its June 26 date. Pre-registrations for the game on all platforms are live now.

The development team confirmed the reason for the English-language version’s late announcement was due to the fact that they wanted to be 100 percent happy with the Japanese version before committing to translating it to other languages.

P5X was initially released in China in April of last year. It follows the protagonist Wonder in a series of events similar to those inPersona 5. Wonder teams up with five new party members, each following similar stereotypes to those in previousPersonagames, including an animal partner, this time an anthropomorphic owl named Lufel.

Throughout the adventure, various side-characters and confidants also appear in the Metaverse, each with their own temporary Personas. These will likely be the ones that are inherited through the game’s gacha system.

Since launch, the game has already featured two major crossovers with other Persona games:Persona 3 Reloadand Persona 5. These crossovers have introduced members of both S.E.E.S. and The Phantom Thieves into Persona 5: The Phantom X.

Much of P5X’s core gameplay mechanics and locations remain the same as its predecessor, Persona 5. Time will be split between real-world activities and in the Metaverse, exploring Mementos andPalaces, with only combat seeing minor tweaks, while many of the game’sextracurricular activitiesremain.
