Summary

Onimusha: Way of the Swordis still set to launch in 2026, but it was given a brand-new gameplay trailer during Summer Game Fest. While wepreviously got some gameplay footagefor Way of the Sword, this latest one reveals a lot more.

The near-two-minute-long trailer was heavy on the combat that players will get to experience come 2026. There are some nice parrying mechanics, plus some projectile deflecting, along with some sweet-looking finishers.

If that wasn’t enough, midway through the trailer, we got a good look at what should be a level mini-boss, before things ended with a proper boss fight reveal.

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Gets More Gameplay At SGF

The game’s protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, is based on the famed swordsman of the same name. Not just that, even theprotagonist’s facial structure has been inspired by that of Japanese samurai movie legend Toshiro Mifune, who played Musashi in Hiroshi Inagaki’s The Samurai Trilogy films in the ’50s. He also starred in a number of Kurosawa-era samurai movies.

Producer Akihito Kadowaki revealed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will not take too long to complete, and an average playershould hit the credits in 20 hours. “I want to make it a satisfying volume for a single action game,” Kadowaki said. “It’s not a game where you defeat the same boss over and over like ‘Monster Hunter,’ so I think it will take about 20 hours to complete.”
