Summary

If you thought"Ugly Sonic" was the worst rendition of a mascot in live-action, then, boy, do we have some news for you. That’s because Ugly Sonic has now been replaced by “Ugly Chopper,” asNetflixrevealed what the reindeer/human-hybrid will look like in Season 2 ofits live-action adaptation of One Piece.

It’s nottotallyawful, and the showrunners could’ve gone full meme and made him an actual reindeer that happens to talk, but it’s also not particularly amazing, especially compared to his animated version.

Naturally, of course, fans were immediately displeased, giving birth to “Ugly Chopper,” the 2025 rendition of one of the best memes in recent movie memory.

Live-Action One Piece Was Always Going To Be Weird, But Chopper Takes The Cake

Over on the One Piece subreddit, one fan immediately put live-action Chopper next to Ugly Sonic, and the resemblance is uncanny to say the least.

“I’m a One Piece fan and i think it looks bad,“one user wrote. “Hopefully, there will be some changes as it won’t come out till next year. I also think the voice acting needs some work too.”

Mikaela Hoover will provide the voice of Chopper. She’s been in a handful of live-action projects, but has never worked in anime.

On Twitter, one person likened Chopper’s live-action design to a “massacre,” and while we won’t gothatfar, it definitely could use some extra love.

“This is literally Sonic all over again,“one fan wrote in response.

Unlike “Ugly Sonic,“which caused such an uproar that the entire movie was delayed to rework his design, it’s highly unlikely that “Ugly Chopper” will cause a delay in production for One Piece Season 2. It’s already been given a 2026 release, andit was greenlit way back in 2023, making a delay less than favorable.
