The Legend of Zeldaseries has quite a number ofrecurring characters throughout its many games. Link, Zelda, Ganon, Impa, Tingle, Beedle… but there’s room for more on the recurring roster. There’s a lot of potential just waiting to be had ifsome one-off charactersgot another chance to shine.
They could be given similar recurring roles, like Impa, Dampé, and Beedle, or they could be… a strange presence, but one that fans look forward to nonetheless (yeah, I’m thinking about Tingle for that one). These characters have only appeared once in the series so far, but they deserve to become series regulars. If Tingle can, they can.
10Makar
The Wind Waker
Makar is an adorable Korok from The Wind Waker who plays the violin and eventually becomes the Sage of Wind during Link’s adventure. His design and personality is so charming, he deserves to come back for a more permanent role.
Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom brought back the Koroks from TWW, so where was Makar? We know Koroks are basically immortal, so unless something terrible happened to him, he should still be around. It’s a missed opportunity for him to not make a return, but Nintendo could fix that in future games.
9Sheik
Ocarina Of Time
Sheik is arguably the coolest Zelda character ever. Yes, even above Link. There’s a reason why Sheik got into Super Smash Bros., despite having literally one appearance in the main series.
Sheik could be a recurring character in different ways: similar to Ocarina of Time, where Zelda disguises herself as him, or as a unique character, the one Zelda based the disguise on. There’s already so much potential here, I’m honestly surprised Nintendo hasn’t brought Sheik based in some way, shape, or form.
8Christine
Link’s Awakening
Zelda needs more anthropomorphic animal characters. We have the Zora and the Rito, similar to fish and birds respectively, but how about some more variety? Link’s Awakening set the example and really went all-in on this with Animal Village, and Christine the goat could easily land herself a role as a series regular.
Christine has a funny questline, where she writes love letters to Mr. Write, and includes a picture of ‘herself’, though it’s actually a snap of Princess Peach. She’s cute and she has a sense of humour - there’s no better candidate for being a recurring character.
7Agitha
Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess has some of the best character designs in the series, and Agitha is up there at the top of them. She loves to collect bugs and insects, as you can see from her butterfly-inspired dress.
Why can’t she be a recurring bug collector, offering Link rewards for his insect collection? Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have alotof bugs you can find and catch, but all you can do is use them for elixirs. I’d have been much more inclined to catch those pesky dragonflies if I had Agitha to give them to.
6Batreaux
Skyward Sword
Batreaux is quite out of place for the type of game Skyward Sword is. He’s cursed to be a demon, and relegated to hiding below the graveyard in Skyloft because everyone else is scared of him. It sounds more like something out of Majora’s Mask or Twilight Princess, honestly.
Regardless, the concept is interesting, especially because he’s actually a really nice guy. All he wants is for you to collect Gratitude Crystals so he can become a human again. Considering how often Ganon’s (or in this case, Demise’s) presence causes evil in Hyrule, you’d think more people would be cursed like this. Maybe it’s a bit cruel for Batreaux to relive this curse in every game, but you can’t deny he looks cool, in a Dracula-type of way.
5Deku Princess
Majora’s Mask
It was great to see the Deku Scrubs return more prominently in Echoes of Wisdom, but where the heck was the Deku Princess? In Majora’s Mask, she’s a headstrong princess, and confronts her father when he falsely accuses a monkey of kidnapping her.
For a minor character, she makes a strong impression, and is often highlighted as a fan-favourite from Majora’s Mask. Similar to the Zora princesses, she could be a recurring royal figure in the series.
4Zelda’s Cat
Echoes Of Wisdom
Listen. When I saw that Zelda had a pet cat in Echoes of Wisdom, I was delighted. How cute is it that she has a little feline companion that sleeps in her bedroom, waiting for her to return from her adventure? I don’t need you to answer that: I already know it’s adorable.
Imagine if Zelda had a pet cat in all the games. Not only would it just be charming, but it would give her a piece of comfort. I’m pretty sure Breath of the Wild Zelda could have benefited from a pet kitty, with everything she was going through prior to the Calamity.
3The Minish
The Minish Cap
Only ever appearing in the aptly named The Minish Cap, the Minish are a tiny race of people who live in the Minish Realm and are only visible to good children, such as Link. While they’re the main event of The Minish Cap, I could easily see a tiny village, where you have to shrink down to insect-size to enter, being a stop on the way of Link’s journey in other games.
The Minish were actually considered for Breath of the Wild, but that idea was eventually scrapped. Perhaps it’s time to revisit that idea, hey Nintendo?
2Addison
Tears Of The Kingdom
Addison is, somehow, pretty much everywhere you go in Tears of the Kingdom, poorly holding up a sign, having learnt nothing from the last time you saw him and fixed a different sign. For some reason, it’s charming. I find myself having to fix his sign every time, the poor guy. I can’t just leave him to suffer.
He has the makings of a recurring character, someone who eternally needs your help with a very simple thing in every game. It pretty much writes itself.
1Kass
Breath Of The Wild
Were you there, when the despair and outcry rallied across the Zelda community, upon discovering Kass was, indeed, nowhere to be found in Tears of the Kingdom? It’s cruel and unjust, the way Nintendo ripped away our favourite Rito.
For any chance of redemption on Nintendo’s part, Kass now needs to be a recurring figure going forward. And why shouldn’t he be? He has charm, intellect, musical ability… sign him up for the next game already!
