Summary

There’s no questionOblivion Remasteredhas been a hit,Xbox revealing more than four million of us have played it already. The gravity of just how big a deal the game has been continues to manifest, though, as it has now been revealed that it took the remaster less than two weeks to outpace the original’s first-year sales.

That’s according toindustry analyst Mat Piscatella. Piscatella shared detailed breakdowns of video game sales for April 2025, revealing Oblivion Remastered was the best-selling game in the US. Considering the remaster was only available for the final 12 days of the month (Circana includes data up until May 3), that makes Oblivion’s chart-topping performance even more impressive.

It doesn’t end there, though. Not only was Oblivion Remastered the best-selling game of the month in April, but it used the 12 days available to it to put the original game’s sales numbers to shame. Piscatella noted that by May 3,Oblivion Remastered had sold more copies than the original managed in its first 15 monthson the market, and made more in dollar sales forBethesdathan the original did during its first 14 months.

A Lot Of Us Have Been Playing The Oblivion Remaster

A Lot More Than Were Playing The Original

It’s also worth noting that these numbers don’t account for the many people, like myself, who have been playing the remaster onXbox Game Pass. These numbers strictly represent copies sold, across all three available platforms, which means, when Game Pass numbers are factored in, it will be fascinating to find out just how many people have played Oblivion Remastered in the month since it was shadow dropped.

Xbox games performing well thanks to their arrivals on non-Xbox platforms was a running theme throughout April, and that’s reflected in the month’s Circana numbers. Not only thanks to Oblivion, butForza Horizon 5, which launched onPS5right at the end of April, jumped from the 42nd best-selling game the month prior to number two in the US charts thanks to its arrival onPlayStation.

A huge month for Xbox with half of the top ten best-sellers published by the console creators.Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, another exclusive that arrived on PS5 last month, andCall of Duty: Black Ops 6among them. It was just revealed thatSenua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be one of the next Xbox exclusives coming to Xbox, andGears of War: Reloaded will launch on PlayStation day onelater this year, so the era of Xbox-published games dominating the sales charts will likely continue throughout the summer and beyond.
