Summary

Everyone who has played Oblivion (orOblivion Remastered), knows the iconic opening scene of Emperor Uriel Septim VII standing atop White Gold Tower, looking out over his empire as he ponders his certain death.

For almost two decades, players have been discovering new ways to reach the tower’s pinnacle. The infamous duplication glitch allowed you to scale the walls of the tower using various household items, such as paintbrushes.

You could also use Oblivion’s wondrous enchanting, alchemy and spellcrafting systems to leap to the top of the tower, a method recently employed by Gaszman, who showed off their attempt in aReddit thread.

Atop White Gold Tower

In the original Oblivion, there was no collision detection atop White Gold Tower. You would slip right through the floor, winding up “inside” the texture at the base of the tower. We should’ve told the Gray Fox about this ingenious method of accessing the tower. We could have saved everyone a lot of time and effort.

However, as displayed by the aforementioned Gaszman, the roof of the White Gold Tower now has collision detection. You can now stand up there and ponder the state of the Empire, just like the recently deceased Uriel Septim. The Hero of Kvatch has no way of knowing the Empire is going to lose several provinces over the next century, but I know that, and I’ll be pondering that on top of the tower where nobody can disturb me.

Gaszman reached the top of the tower by jumping from a nearby mountain, but it’s also possible to jump from the base of the tower, as evidenced byseveral videosof players doing this in the original Oblivion.

You can also still do the duplication glitch, if you’d like to painstakingly ascend the tower on a massive pile of paintbrushes. You might be able to handle this, but can your CPU?
