Summary

After destroying the Oblivion gate at Kvatch inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion–hopefully at a lower level– your character becomes one of the most famous people in Cyrodiil. In fact, everywhere you go, NPCs refer to you as The Hero of Kvatch andkeep a closer eye on everything you do. But it’s not till youclose the Great Gatethat your heroics are immortalized in stone.

Near the north gate of Bruma, you’ll find a statue of your character, erected in honour of your heroics. This statue will show your character wearing the armour you have on during the quest to close the gate and holding up the weapon you wielded at the time – a rather neat feature during the original launch of the game. At least that’s how it’s supposed to work.

How Does The Bruma Statue In Oblivion Remastered Work?

As was the case in the original, the statue in Oblivion Remastered is extremely buggy. There have been numerous reports by players that the statue looks nothing like their character, or that the weapons and armour the sculptors decided to use are very random. The issues with the statue seem to vary depending on who you ask.

For instance one player took to Reddit to complain about how their statue got a haircut. “It’s a little hard to see but my statue is steaming in the sun because I was a vampire during the Great Gate quest,” saidbitai23. “Not only that but because vampires have a weird hair bug, they made my girl bald.”

Other players have noticed that their statue isn’t even a statue. It’s a 1:1 model of their character in full colour that looks like a clone has simply been placed on a pedestal. Few have also reported that it brings up the NPC interaction UI when they get close to it.

Another highly reported issue is that the statue shows their character in nothing but their underwear. “I finally get a statue and it’s like my middle school nightmares all over again,” saidSherm.

Even veteran players aren’t sure how the game picks which armour set and weapons to use for the statue. Some suggest it’s the equipment you start the quest in, while others think it’s what you’re wearing when you talk to Martin afterwards. Even those who’ve tried to get a statue in their underwear by dumping all their gear have found their statue to be wearing some random armour.

When it does work, though, it’s quite a sight.UnReality95showed off their statue, with the Goldbrand sword in its hand featuring the fire effects of the weapon. Perhaps it’s an immersive feature that builds your statue based on which mason is available at the time. Clearly some have a higher masonry skill level than others.
