Summary
Players new and old are currently settling intoThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster’sCyrodiil. Despite only being out for a few weeks, the re-release of one of 2006’s most popular titles has sparked dozens of debates online. Playershate the new lockpick mechanics, arearguing about whether a ghost horse is real, and there arediscussions about which is the game’s best-looking armor set.
The latest conversation has now kicked off around one of the game’smost infamous properties, Frostcrag Spire, with some convinced that it is far too powerful for the game.
Frostcrag Spire Is Cited As One Of The Oblivion Remaster’s Most Overpowered Properties
Over on the Oblivionsubreddit, players have been debating just how overpowered Frostcrag Spire is. The property becomes available to the player after completing a quest of the same name, and is located deep in the Jerall Mountains. It is designed predominantly for those who are doing a mage playthrough, as it allows you to perform many magic-related tasks with little drawback. It’s for this reason that players think it’s overpowered.
“Custom spellcrafting is OP.Spire just lets you skip the Mage’s Guild questline as long as you can make enough gold to buy the Magetallow candles,“saidTornado_XIII.This alone has made players, including PetroarZed, ignore the Spire’s potential, with Zed saying, “I’m not allowing myself custom spellcrafting (or enchanting) in the remaster because I know how easy it made the original for me.”
With Frostcrag Spire added in one of the game’s DLCs, SurDnosaid, “I think all free house DLCs are OP to an extent and ruin the house purchasing option, and especially free stuff like Aleswell room. Why settle for a single room when you may go and get an entire tower? Makes Oblivion into more of a power fantasy like Skyrim instead of a well-fledged RPG.”
Goopteacher alluded to the fact that the discussions happening now are similar to those that occurred when the game launched, saying, “Yeah back in the day when this was first released it wastheplayer house to purchase because of the enchanting and spell making options.”

While many argued that Frostcrag Spire had the potential to ruin elements of the game, it wasn’t without its drawbacks. Players cited its frustrating teleport abilities and the inability to store ingredients in the alchemy workbench as some of its biggest problems.
