Summary
InThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, there are multiple companions. you may have Mage Apprentices follow you around, the Golden Saint and Dark Seducer can join the fray in the Shivering Isles, and, of course, there’s theAdoring Fan, who just wants to let you know what a good job you’re doing.
While some companions are mandated by the game, others are chosen by the players, like the horse they ride or themysterious unicornthat is lurking in Cyrodiil. Unfortunately, while a horse (or unicorn) can be great for getting aroundOblivion’sworld, players are finding out that they’re not particularly hardy, and it’s proving quite the frustration.
Oblivion Remastered’s Horses Are Dying Far Too Easily For Players' Likings
Over the past few hours, a pair of discussions have been started on the Oblivion Remastersubreddit, with players sharing their disappointment at just how feeble the game’s horses are. This is, of course, not helped by the fact that they draw aggro from many of Cyrodiil’s resident baddies.
In onethread, OP Ticket-Tight said, “One of the most ridiculous design elements in this game is how my horse basically acts as a threat magnet but with not much health, constantly drawing the enemy’s focus and getting destroyed in combat, so I have to reload. I’m so sick of it,” an opinion that was evidently shared by fellow Oblivion players.
While many users shared their distaste at how quickly their horses died, including one player whosaid, “Horses are completely unnecessary in this game,” others opted to share tips to help keep them alive instead.
“I’ve found if you summon something, they will attack that instead,“saidTheMachinesWin. At the same time, other players recommended just using Shadowmere, a horse received from theDark Brotherhoodquestline, which is immortal.
The overriding theory from players, though, was to just not use horses at all. By upgrading yourAthletics skillsenough, youshouldbe able to traverse Cyrodiil faster than any creature can.
Horses are completely unnecessary in this game.
It’s clear that some players have struggled to keep horses alive in Oblivion Remastered, but it seems like others are having trouble keeping the Unicorn alive.
In a secondthread, LockJ4w_NightVision shared how they only managed to keep the mythical creature alive for “half an hour”, and plenty of other players sympathized.
DesertPunkPiratesaid, “I’m sick of this little f**ker. The wife is still insisting on keeping it alive until we get Shadowmare…” SeniorMaKKadded, “I killed the unicorn, dumbass just like the adoring fan got in front of my spells.”
Although horses can be frustrating, I’ll leave you with a poignant message left by one user, whosaid, “Every living thing dies eventually. I wouldn’t worry about trying so hard to avoid its death, and instead appreciate the time you have with your horse.”
