Summary

The Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion Remasteredshowed fans of the series whySkyrim was, in many ways, a downgrade. While the latter is undoubtedly the one of the most popular games of all time, Bethesda removed a number of features from Oblivion, namely the complex magic system and the level scaling. While mostpreferred the way Oblivion did it, some still missed one of Skyrim’s most popular features.

Smithing plays a very important role in Skyrim. You can craft almost any piece of gear if you have the right parts and skill level. While finding a cool helmet is great, there’s a certain charm crafting 500 daggers to get your skill level high enough to make that helmet yourself. Thanks to one fan, you can finally do this in Oblivion Remastered as well.

Oblivion Remastered Gets A Smithing Mod Like Skyrim

Created by ColdTyrant, the simply titledSmithingmod adds the entire system to Oblivion Remastered (thanks,VG247). The mod adds forges to the major cities of Cyrodiil, where you can craft any of the gear you can find in the game. As a guide, it even introduces the Smithing Workbook that will tell you what materials you’ll need.

Each station consists of a Smithing Chest, where you need to store all the materials you’ll need. Then there’s the anvil, where you can choose what you want to make, with high-level equipment locked behind certain Armour skill levels. The Equipment Smelter will allow you to break down weapons into raw materials, which you can then use to craft others. And finally, the Leather Rack will let you process hides into leather.

The mod also introduces a whole special forges that allow you to create Dark Seducer equipment or Golden Saint equipment. These new weapon types will only work with raw materials from the Shivering Isles.

While the system in Oblivion Remastered encourages going out and exploring for new gear, the Skyrim version wants you to drill down on smithing and improve your skill enough to craft whatever you want. However, if you want a mix of both, this mod will allow you craft that elusive weapon you’ve been scouring every cave in Cyrodiil for.
