10The Last Of The Really Great Whandoodles
Creatures, Worlds, And Gum Trees
The Last of the Really Great Whandoodles is probably the least famous book on this list, but it’s one of the most creative books ever written. It’s a Julie Andrews masterpiece that follows siblings as they explore a new world to save the last Whangdoodle, a fanciful creature that lives by himself in a magical world.
This would be epic because it’s such an imaginative book with living motorcycles, multiple worlds, and even trees made of gum.Originally made for children, this book would make an epic anime. Fans who appreciate multiple worlds, inventive monsters, and clear-cut heroes would love this anime.
91984
Mystery And Mayhem
Dramatic anime have historically done well, and mysteries almost always take the cake. Just look at Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist. That’s why an anime rendition of 1984 would be absolutely superb. This book is not only a well-known classic, but it tackles topics of government involvement and totalitarianism, surveillance, and defying “Big Brother” for personal wants and needs.
There is stark imagery in this book, particularly in the torture scenes, the element of always being watched, and in the few moments of vulnerability we see from our main character. It would become a dramatic thriller that took the world by storm.
8My Sister, The Serial Killer
Epic Slice Of Life
This book is one of the more modern ones on this list, with a 2018 debut. The story was originally released in Nigeria and then in the United States. It’s a comedic slasher about a woman whose younger sister is a serial killer.
This would be an incredible anime. If we stick to the comedic elements, the idea is incredibly unique. We’d follow the main character as she cleans up after her sister and eventually has a rivalry with her for the same man. This comedy is one that we’d all sit down to binge.
7Percy Jackson
Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson follows demigods who are children of the Greek Gods. Even if an anime were very loosely based on this concept, it would be pretty epic. It could explore other gods and showcase a young boy, Percy, growing up and discovering his powers, similar to the series.
Similar anime would be Hunter X Hunter and My Hero Academia. Fans adore a young underdog who finds himself on an epic journey, and that’s exactly who Percy is. Plus, the mix of coming-of-age and fantasy would appeal to many.
6Twilight Saga
Hoa Hoa Hoa
Give this one a chance. As campy and ridiculous as the movies were, they have a huge cult following. The books are even more popular, and many covet the entire set. The four-book series follows Bella Swan, a girl stuck between a werewolf and a vampire.
There are a few infamous vampire anime, with Vampire Knight being the most popular. A Twilight anime would be similar, with a love triangle, school, and growing up in a world the main character doesn’t completely understand. The anime would probably add more drama than the books, which would make it extra fun to delve into.
5The Girl On The Train
Mystery Anime
The Girl on the Train is about a girl who witnesses a murder but has memory loss due to her ex-husband. She slowly works to bring back her memory and prove that her ex is the real murderer to save a woman she admires.
This would obviouslybe a mystery anime, but a unique one. With most mysteries, the audience tries to uncover clues. But Girl on the Train adds the memory aspect, where fans dive deeper into her memories to discover the truth.
4Moby Dick
The High Seas
There’s a reason thatOne Pieceis the longest-running anime out there. People love adventure, especially when it’s at sea. Of course, One Piece has great characters and a convoluted plot line, but a lot of the pull is the setting.
That’s why Moby Dick would make an awesome anime. There’s the epic battle between Ishmael and the Whale, and the queer inner subtext behind it. Unlike One Piece, this show would probably only be a season or two, but the imagery alone would make it a hard hitter.
3The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
Turkish Delight To Watch
This is a book that everyone knows, and it’s been recreated through multiple mediums. However, it would be absolutely enchanting as an anime. Animation could truly bring to life the creatures, the evil queen, and the duality of the two worlds.
As an anime, it would also feel less childish. Many serious themes throughout the book would be heightened, such as politics, Aslan versus the Queen, and the children debating which world they want to live in.
2The Great Gatsby
Elegant Mystery
This book is different from others on this list because even though there is mystery and tragedy displayed throughout the pages, the reason it would make such a great anime is the setting. Elegant jazz, beautiful costumes, wine and sparkling diamonds, and the eventual death of the main character would all suck in a large audience.
It’s poetic in a way that would easily be bolstered by anime. It would be elegant likeonly Studio Ghibli can be, but the themes would be similar to Paranoia Agent or Code Geass.
1Boyfriend Material
LGBTQIA+ Love
Boyfriend Material is a rom-com about a man named Luc. He has his own non-profit and slides through life feeling a little lost. His parents are famous musicians, and when he makes a public faux pas, he hires a fake boyfriend to better his image. And of course, they slowly fall in love.
This would be abeautiful slice-of-life anime. The book is very sweet, and the two main characters slowly fall in love in a way that sucks you in and makes you root for them. These anime are great for people who prefer slower and kinder stories, such as Clannad and the Silent Voice.
