It looks likeEAreallyisn’t keen on makingThe Sims 5, as the idea has been shot down again by the company’s entertainment president during a recent, and frankly confusing, interview.

Considering the fact that The Sims 4 has now been going on for more than a decade, you’d think thatMaxis and EA would be considering moving on to the long-awaited fifth entry in the series. Well, as we’ve had hammered home plenty in the last year or so,that’s not really the plan.

A family chatting away in The Sims 4.

Late last year, it was announced that Maxis wasno longer planning on developing The Sims 5, and was instead working on “Project Rene”, a multiplayer spin-off for the series that seems to be planned as its own platform. In case you thought EA might have changed its mind in that time, a recent interview has confirmed that isn’t the case.

You really, reallyshouldn’t expect The Sims 5 at this point

EA is going all in on Project Rene

As pointed out by PC Gamer,Variety recently had the chance to talk to EA’s entertainment president, Laura Miele, about everything that the company has going on right now. Outside of Battlefield 6, one of the main things Miele talked about was the future of The Sims and why Maxis isn’t just making a fifth game.

Miele said that the multiplayer project “represents one of the biggest growth opportunities” for EA, and that the team is currently developing what the platform is going to be. In response to the criticisms of the next Sims game not being a mainline title, Miele defended it by saying that players would have to start from “day zero” and “give up all of the things that you have created”.

With all of the DLC that EA and Maxis have released for The Sims 4 over the years, Miele argues that resetting that for The Sims 5 is “not player-friendly” and “not a good idea for our community”. You could argue that The Sims 5 could justincludesome of those content packs, but that doesn’t seem to be the line of thinking here.

What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years. - Laura Miele

The rest of the interview teases a little bit about what Project Rene means for The Sims' “ecosystem”, but it seems like we’re still a long way off seeing that in action. Either way, one thing’s certain - we’re no closer to getting The Sims 5.
