Summary
TheNintendo Switch 2is being praised for the improvements to originalSwitchgames when played on the new console. Even Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is yet to get an official Switch 2 update, runs a lot better on the next-gen Nintendo platform. However, some issues need to be ironed out, including one that brings your Smash matches to an abrupt end when selecting a certain character.
Those who loaded up Smash Ultimate on the Switch 2 during the new console’s launch day gleefully shared clips of just how much faster the game loads. However,as pointed out by OatmealDome,Nintendohasupdated a help page on its Japanese sitededicated to troubleshooting problems during the Switch and Switch 2 transition period, detailing a problem with Mii Fighters in Smash Ultimate.
“In online play, when a Switch 2 player and a Switch player are matched, if one of them is using a Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately,” the translated note about Smash Ultimate reads. “Please refrain from using Mii Fighters in online play as much as possible until this issue is fixed.” It also notes that when changing a Mii Fighter’s appearance, it may not be displayed properly in the thumbnail. Less of an issue, but still a problem seemingly introduced by people playing the OG Switch game on the Switch 2.
Don’t Use Mii Fighters In Smash Ultimate
At Least Not Until Nintendo Has Fixed Its Switch 2 Problem
All of that means you should probably avoid using the Mii Fighter in Smash Ultimate for now when playing online. Even if you aren’t knowingly playing with someone on a Switch 2 when you’re on a Switch, or vice versa, if you’re pairing with a stranger, there’s no knowing which platform they might be playing on. Reduce the odds of your match ending before it has even begun by just avoiding the Mii Fighter for now.
Nintendo signs off by letting players know it is working on a fix for the issue. Considering how big Smash Ultimate is, even though it isn’t a Switch 2 game, a lot of people will be playing it on Switch 2. That almost certainly makes fixing this a high priority for Nintendo, so expect it to be dealt with relatively quickly.
Elsewhere on Switch 2 launch day, things seem to have gone pretty smoothly. Pokemon fans are celebrating asshiny hunting is a lot easier in the Switch 2 version of Scarlet & Violet, and evenSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection that was delisted years ago, got an update. As long as you didn’t buy your Switch 2 fromthe GameStop that accidentally put staples into their screens, you probably had a pretty good first day with your new console.
