IngestingNintendoproducts is something that we all used to do back in the day. From blowing too closely to on SNES cartridges to licking the ones for the Switch. It’s the reasonNintendo started coating its cartridges with a foul tasting but harmless chemical. With the launch of theSwitch 2, it seems connoisseurs have found a new way to take in its flavours.

Much like the smell of a new car or book, the handheld console itself also has a new product smell. However, some of those who managed to get their hands on the Switch 2 are taking huge whiffs straight out of its cooling vents for some reason. I personally cannot understand the pleasure in doing so, but would be remiss if I didn’t mention that it’s probably not a good idea.

That’s The Good Stuff!

“Surprised this hasn’t been more widely reported, but I randomly decided to huff the vents this week, and yes, it has the same smell profile of the [Steam] Deck,” said aResetEra postby Busaiku. “However, since the fans are smaller, it’s not as full of a flavor. Have ya huffed the vents yet? Nintendo never warned us not to, like Valve.”

Perhaps Nintendo didn’t warn us not to huff the vents because it didn’t think anyone would actually press their nose against the vents. Unfortunately for them, though, the smell wasn’t as… flavourful as that of the Steam Deck. Of course, this prompted others to try it with their consoles and report their finding in the thread.

“I actually noticed this today!” said one of the replies. “Decided to play handheld Splatoon and the fans were performing like jets but once it calmed down I gave it a sniffy but I couldn’t compare it to the Deck since I never owned one. Was I poisoned? Should I seek medical assistance?”

“It smells exactly like March 2017 to me,” said another. “Turning on Fast Fusion or 60 fps Breath of the Wild and smelling the vents really brings me back.”

While it’s probably not harmful for you to sniff your Switch 2 vent, it’s probably best that you avoid it. I’m still unsure why you would even want to do it, but who am I to judge?
