Summary

In one month’s time we’ll all, hopefully, be playing with our brand-newNintendo Switch 2consoles. Whether that’sdiving into Mario Kart Worldor intoa GameCube title via the new Switch Online additions, there will be plenty to digest.

In the leadup to the Switch 2’s release there’s been a lot — and we mean A LOT — of leaks and speculation,so much so that a Nintendo marketing exec implied it made the company uncomfortable. Now, a new batch of leaks suggests that gamers won’t have to buy the latest Joy-Con color variants, as the controllers will seemingly be customizable.

Hooray To Saving Money, Well, Sort Of

As first shared on Twitter by CentroLeaks, it’s being reported that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will have side plates that can be removed and seemingly replaced by different colored plates.

It’s not too dissimilar tohow the PlayStation 5 can be customized with different colored panels. For reference,Sony’s PS5 covers start at $54.99 and can increase depending on the color.

Right now, it’s unclear what pricing strategyNintendowill make use of. More so, whether the additional side panels will be sold at general retailers or exclusive to Nintendo’s own store. Sony’s panels are only sold on PlayStation Direct, though other creators have made duplicates sold elsewhere.

Still, should this latest development come to pass, it should represent a major win for Nintendo fans, particularly those who found themselves buying brand-new Joy-Con sets in various color options. Already,Nintendo has confirmed that existing Joy-Cons will work with the Switch 2 with one minor caveat, so you shouldn’t find it too difficult to play with friends.

One thing is for sure, though, those GameCube colored panels will be a day one purchase for many, including this writer.
