Summary
AKoei Tecmoproducer has claimed that theNintendo Switch 2is about as powerful as theXbox Series S, instead of the PS4 like we all previously assumed.
Before we all finally got our hands on the Switch 2 last week, one of the biggest question marks surrounding the console was how powerful it was going to be. This is the case for every new bit of hardware, but it’s especially notable for the Switch 2considering how admittedly limited the original console’s specs were, and how muchNintendowas pushing for ports and upgrades.
Now that the Switch 2 is out there and those of us lucky enough to pre-order one have played it, it’s become very clear that it’s quite the powerful machine. It was rumoured to match the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of power, but it seems to have gone further than that, something that’s been backed up by a major publisher.
No, The Nintendo Switch 2 Isn’t As Powerful As A PS4
According To Koei Tecmo, At Least
As pointed out by Nintendo Lifeandoriginally reported by wccftech, Koei Tecmo producer Takuto Edagawa recently spoke out about the Switch 2’s upcoming port of Wild Hearts, Wild Hearts S. While chatting about the console’s power, Edagawa noted that it’s actually closer to the Xbox Series S than a PS4.
During the interview, Edagawa is asked whether the Switch 2 is closer to the PS4 or Xbox Series S, which leads him to say that, although it’s “difficult to generalise”, the console is closer to the Xbox Series S overall. That’s in terms of “raw computing power”, which Edagawa is likely more aware of having actually worked with the console.
There are a lot of characteristics when it comes to raw computing power, so it’s difficult to generalise, but I think it can be thought as closer to the Series S. - Takuto Edagawa
While it’s nice to have confirmation from someone with experience developing for the Switch 2, that claim shouldn’t really come as a surprise. With ports of games like Street Fighter 6 and Cyberpunk 2077, it’s become clear very quickly that the Switch 2 isn’t close to the PS4 like so many thought it would be based on the original specs.
