Despitebeing the face of Nintendo for a good while following the launch of the Nintendo Wii, Miis haven’t really been as much of a big deal over the past few console generations.The Switch basically did away with them outside of potentially having them as your avatar,and they’ve appeared in fewer games over the last few years.
Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 is nearly upon us,everyone’s been wondering how important Miis will be to the system, and whether they’ll make an appearance at all. As it turns out, they are still sticking around as avatars for users, and their creation process has even seen a few changes.
Gender Might Be A Factor In Certain Games, Though
As pointed out by My Nintendo News, it’s been confirmed and shown off by people who have managed to get their hands on the Switch 2 early that creating a Mii is still an option for the console. While that’s not too surprising considering they’ve been around in that capacity for a bit,Nintendo has made some tweaks and removed gender as an option for the avatars.
Now when you make a Mii, you’ll be asked to select which “style” you want, with a male-presenting and female-presenting avatar shown for each of the two styles. This essentially means that Miis are genderless now, instead of the “Male” and “Female” options that were present when creating a Mii previously.
Interestingly, the Mii Studio on the Nintendo Today app still has you select a gender for your Mii. This will seemingly be changed with the Switch 2’s launch.
That being said, it is noted that the two selectable styles may be reflected as a specific gender in certain games. We don’t know many Switch 2 titles that are releasing with Mii support as of the time of writing,but that presumably means the new Tomodachi Life will decide the gender based on which style you select.
