It seems the highly criticised GameChat feature, which requires you to buy a separate camera andhave a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, doesn’t properly moderate its speech-to-text function. As pointed out by those who got their hands on it, the text shows the cuss word in all its glory, should you find the need to say it.
Who The Fudge Allowed This?
According to a BlueSky post by David Howe (viaGamesRadar+), GameChat’s speech-to-text feature allowed for the F-bomb to show up while they were talking to other players. “Confirmed: you may say f*** in game chat speech-to-text,” said their post, along with a screenshot of the transcript. You can see the word in all its glory, thrice.
This seems like quite a slip up by Nintendo, of all manufacturers, as it prides itself in making games for the entire family. While the GameChat feature is already under fire for its expensive camera and horrible video resolution, this lapse further adds to the growing number of issues with the Switch 2.
There has already been a row over the price of the console, its accessories, as well asthat of Mario Kart World. But, it seems all of that does not get you a moderated speech-to-text feature that filters out even the most common cuss word. You can be sure players are going to try all sorts of cuss words now.
Nintendo will probably address this issue pretty quickly with a patch that filters these words. However, it’s surprising that a feature such as GameChat didn’t launch with a moderation system in place already. Then again, online features have never been the strong suit of the manufacturer.
