Summary
Nintendohas already been facing a lot of flak thanks to the pricing ofMario Kart World. While the game surely looks impressive, fans seriously doubt that it offers enough to justify the$80 price. To add to this, Nintendo’s newSwitch 2game keys have also annoyed the fanbase, which enjoyed the luxury of physical copies more than any other console player base.
While game keys allow you to share games with your friends, you won’t be able to access the game without it, rendering the entire download on your Switch 2 is useless. However, this isn’t the end of it. It seems the fine print on the cover of Street Fighter 6 Fighters Edition has more bad news in store.
Make Sure You Claim Those DLCs Quickly
As spotted byDoesItPlayon Twitter, the Street Fighter 6 Fighters Edition physical edition comes with the Year 1 and 2 DLC, but they will expire if you don’t redeem the codes in two years. As if it isn’t bad enough that the game key concept is a way to kill physical media, but offering the DLC in such a manner is nothing short of anti-consumerist.
“This is MADNESS!” said one comment. “So I buy it, and if I don’t choose to use it, the code expires in 2yrs! Wow. What is the driving factor for this console.” While this is probably a decision taken by Capcom, the fact that it does this in addition to using Nintendo’s game key means it’s not really a physical edition at all.
Game keys are a half step towards a digital game. While they come in a box, it’s essentially only a code that makes you download the game. So you can see why the DLC new further frustrates fans.
