Summary

Nintendois already looking out for the battery life of theSwitch 2ahead of its next-gen console launch next month. The console creators have shared a feature on the Switch 2 that will slow down the rate at which its battery deteriorates.

Since the Switch 2 isn’t even here yet, it’s funny to think about a time when its battery will have become so old and used that it ceases to function, or at least doesn’t function as efficiently as it did when you first bought it. That time will come though, and Nintendo wants you to start prolonging the inevitable from the second you take your shiny new Switch 2 out of the box.

Nintendo has been using its Nintendo Today app to hone in on some of the Switch 2’s lesser-known features. On Monday, it directed app users' attention to a feature on the Switch 2 that willstop the console charging at around 90 percent. Doing so will preserve your console’s battery health for longer. That last ten percent for a Switch 2 that doesn’t die on you quite as quickly as it would otherwise seems like a fair tradeoff.

Let’s Be Optimistic And Go With The Former, For Now

The video on the app, which you can check out abovecourtesy of Stealth, even shows you how to turn on the feature. Head to the console’s system settings, navigate the submenus, and there will be an option to “stop charging around 90 percent”. The user in the clip then plugs in their Switch 2, and time is sped up so that you can see the console stop charging at 88 percent.

Nintendo has given a pretty wide window oftwo to six and a half hoursfor how long the Switch 2’s battery will last on a full charge, although I’m guessing if you’re going to apply this new feature, you can knock ten percent off each side of that estimate. How long a full charge will last ultimately depends on what you’re doing with your Switch and what you’re playing, but if you have this 90 percent feature turned on, that maximum play time will remain as high as possible for longer.

The wait for the Switch 2 will be over before you know it.Nintendo’s next console launches on May 19, 2025,so only a little more than three weeks from now.Mario Kart Worldis the big first-party game that will launch alongside it, anda slew of games from third-party studiosthat have been dying to put their stuff on a Nintendo console for years will be joining it.
