If you managed to get your hands on aNintendo Switch 2that hasn’t beenruined by staple pins, you’ll probably want to make sure that it’s protected against impact as well. Dbrand – the same company known for the PS5 faceplates – unveiled the strangely named Killswitch case for that precise purpose.

It’s clearly the go-to case for most Switch 2 owners, as there were100,000 people waiting to pre-order it even before the Nintendo Switch 2 showcase. However, now that the console and case are out, there have been several reports that the joy-con section of the case has a manufacturing defect that makes the magnetic joy-cons accidentally detach.

Dbrand Will Replace Faulty Switch 2 Killswitch Case Parts

Dbrand’s initial response to complaints on Reddit was pretty brash. Videos showcasing the encased console’s joy-cons falling apart were met with a rather defensive response by the brand. A reply by Dbrand at the time said, “nobody routinely holds their Switch 2 like this,” and that people were purposefully trying to make it fall off.

However, it now appears that Dbrand has changed its tune, not only admitting to the manufacturing defect, but also offering replacement parts to those who are facing the issue. After defending the case and explaining that the issue was occurring because people were holding it wrong, Dbrand has apologised for its earlier statement and promised to replace the faulty parts.

“As easy as it is to boil our original post down to ‘you’re holding it wrong,’ what we’re sober to now is the point that you should be allowed to hold it however the fuck you want, without detachment occurring,” said a statemant by Dbrand (viaVGC). It then revealed that “everyone, whether or not you’re experiencing this issue, is getting a free replacement set of Joy-Con Grips”.

It also mentioned that it is working on two new versions of the joy-con grips, one with a thinner lip and one that resolves the issue entirely. However, that will take some time, so the replacement offer may be your best bet if you want to secure your Switch 2 immediately.
