IfMario Kart WorldandDonkey Kong Bananzaisn’t enough for you, theNintendo Switch 2’sthird-party lineupmight just change your mind. WithElden Ring: Tarnished Editionand Cyberpunk 2077 leading the pack, Nintendo made sure everyone knows just how powerful its next-gen console is.

However, while we have a number of games to look forward to in the short run, it seems that the flow of third-party games and ports may soon dry up. Getting popular triple-A games onto the console is undoubtedly one of the company’s biggest goals, but according to trusted sourceNate the Hate, it might be a while before we see more publishers announce their games for the Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dev Kits Have Been A Major Issue

In his recentpodcast, Nate talked about the lack of third-party and indie game announcements for the console. Nintendo revealed a number of games during its dedicated showcase, but the announcements have since dried up. It seems this issue goes back to GDC 2025, where Digital Foundry said that a lot of developers and partners still haven’t got Switch 2 development kits.

“This is something that remains true,” said Nate. “And it’s not just indie developers. It’s also those double-A and low triple-A developers who currently lack access to dev kits. And for a lot of them, they’re kind of sitting there scratching their head wondering when is Nintendo going to give us access.”

His co-host, Modern Vintage Gamer, suggested that roughly two-thirds of the publishers and developers who made games for the previous console, have not had access to Switch 2 dev kits. Neither of the two could give a reason for Nintendo keeping the dev kits so exclusive, especially since it wants more third-party games.

Later in the episode, Nate revealed, “I also know studios like Capcom, Sega, Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, and many others are just waiting. They have games they want to announce for the platform. They have a lot of support coming to this platform.” He also mentioned that Microsoft is also planning to support the console, but the dev kit issue may see all these announcements get pushed back to 2026.
