Nintendohas finally shared the specific details of its recently announced price hike in the US, which now means that the Switch OLED is only slightly cheaper than aSwitch 2.
Over the past few months, we’ve seenseveral big gaming companies announce that they’d be raising the prices of their consoles, games, and accessories to match “market conditions”. The latest casualty of this move is Nintendo, which confirmed earlier this weekthat it’d be increasing the price of, bizarrely, its original Switch line.
When Nintendo announced that it’d be raising the price of some of its products in the United States,it wasn’t revealed exactly what was being made more expensiveand how much by.Now that the price change is in effect on the official Nintendo Store, it’s been confirmed how widespread and noticeable the price changes are.
The difference in cost between the two is a lot more minimal now
Earlier today, the official US Nintendo Store was updated to reflect the price changes, and ResetEra user IDontBeatGames was kind enough to share all of the products that have been affected. The biggest of the bunch is the Nintendo Switch OLED,which has gone from costing $349.99 to $399.99, which is only $50 less than the Switch 2.
That’s not all, though,as the original Switch model will now cost $340, essentially giving it the old pricetag of the OLED.The Lite model hasn’t been hit as hard at $230, but it’s still seen a price increase. Alongside that,Joy-Con controller sets and the Switch 1 Pro Controllerhave both been made $10 more expensive, putting them at $90 and $80, respectively.
As was promised, amiibo have been made more expensive now too, as single ones costing $16 are now $20, with some of the double packs costing even more.
The changes have also hit some of Nintendo Switch Online controllers, such as the NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64 ones, which have all had their prices adjusted by $5 or $10. Not the biggest raise, especially in comparison to the consoles, but it’s still noticeable in the grand scheme of things.
Although that does appear to be it for now, it seems that Switch 2 accessories could see a slight bump, too.Twitter user Wario64 pointed out that GameStophas now made the Switch 2 Pro controller $90 instead of $85, which could indicate a change is on the way. We won’t know until the Nintendo Store updates, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
