Summary
Oblivion Remasteredhas revolutionised fashion in Tamriel, elevating once-ugly armour and clothing into pieces worth wearing.
TakeBrusel Amelion’s armourfor example: what was once an ugly, pale imitation of steel armour has now become a chic mint-green ensemble, fit for the ballroom of a count. Aspiring fashionistas have even beguncombining daedric and aedric armour, creating an unexpected harmony amidst the great contrast.
However, what about armour that looked good in the original release of Oblivion, and looks even better nineteen years later? I am, of course, speaking about the imperial palace guard armour set. The tasteful gold inlay, the pop of colour offered by the red trim…. the pristine white metal that just screams righteousness. There’s no one I’d rather be called a criminal scum by than the exquisitely outfitted palace guardsmen.
So Close, Yet So Far
Unfortunately, you can’t loot or equip this armour. It was a cruel jest played on us by Bethesda nineteen years ago, showing us these resplendent beacons of purity and not allowing us to murder them and steal their armour.
This injustice has not been addressed in Oblivion Remastered. This armour remains unlootable, much to the chagrin of the player base.
A user on Reddit namedScylax_Vitarrnis more offended by this fact than most, and has been sacrificing a palace guard in the centre of the palace’s council chamber every day in the vain hope that the Nine Divines will reward his efforts with lootable palace guard armour.
“Oh Talos! We give you his body, so give me his armour,” rings out the pilgrim’s prayer every afternoon. The guards at the palace are certainly perturbed by the ritual, but even they are understanding as they understand the undeniable draw of their shiny white armour.
This isn’t a new struggle. There arediscussion pagescomplaining that players can’t equip the palace armour on UESP that date back to 2008. We are witnessing the rekindling of a decades-old complaint, and I’m completely here for it.
Games weren’t as easy to patch back then, but these days…. Let’s just say, we all want you to do the right thing, Virtous.
