Don’t worry,Nier: Automatafans: the game’s infamously raunchy character designs are safe fromSquare Enix’s judgment, as the creators have responded to a mistranslation saying they had to censor content during development.
Nier: Automata is beloved for a whole lot of reasons, from its action combat that’s some of Platinum’s best to its brain-bending story and multiple endings. Of course, one of the earliest reasons that Automata made a name for itself is because of the, ahem, fairly revealing designs used for characters like 2B and A2.
While Automata is so much more than its character designs,it’s fair to say that the game simply wouldn’t be the same without them, and it’s a large reason why they’ve stuck around for so long. In the midst of Stellar Blade’s PC release, there have been some rumours thatSquare Enix asked Automata’s creators to change the designs, but that apparently isn’t true.
Don’t Worry, Nier: Automata’s Characters Look How They Were Always Meant To
You Just Know That Yoko Taro Would Confirm If That Wasn’t The Case
As reported by GamesRadar+, the leads of the Nier series, Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito, recently took part in a live chat where they answered a question on Nier’s iconic designs. While Taro said that the team likes to take the “contrarian route”, Saito noted that there are some things they avoid due to being “ethically or morally inappropriate”, which many took as a shot atSquare Enix.
That isn’t the case, however, asSaito confirmed in a tweet replying to Automaton that the whole thing was a “huge mistranslation”. Taro also responded to the rumours when asked about it andsaid that he’s “never heard of such a thing happening”. It seems that the whole situation is just a case of the context being taken the wrong way, and that Square Enix never asked Automata to be changed.
Nier doesn’t have any restrictions whatsoever! - Yosuke Saito
So, if you’re worried that Square Enix might have balked at 2B’s original design and asked for it to be changed (which seems unlikely anyway considering how it’s handled in the final game), then you don’t need to worry anymore.Saito even offered to explain the whole situation in a future livestream, so it sounds like more details are going to be shared soon.
