According to a report fromInsider Gaming,Ubisoftis preparing to release a newGhost Recongame in 2026. The game, codenamed Ovr, will be entering an internal alpha later this year, with eyes towards releasing the game in 2026.

It seems the biggest difference between the series' last two instalments, Wildlands and Breakpoint, and the upcoming entry, is the switch from a third-person to a first-person camera. The series will maintain the tactical gameplay of previous entries, but apparently with more of a focus on military simulation elements.

Ghost Recon Returns

The report goes on to speculate that Ubisoft is gearing up to reveal multiple games next year during a Ubisoft Forward event, possibly as a sort of ‘comeback’ from all the internal struggles the company has faced this year.

Tom Clancy’s Frontline, intended to be a free-to-play battle royale, was cancelled in 2022, after a wave of negative public feedback. Ubisoft may have also realised it was arriving too late for the battle royale trend, and decided instead to shift the series back to the open-world, tactical-shooter style of Breakpoint and Wildlands.

There wascontinuous conflictbetween the company’s founding Guillemot Family and other shareholders following the commercial underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws. However, the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows followed by thespinning off of a new subsidiarybacked by Tencent appears to have buoyed the company. The subsidiary, valued at $4.6 billion, is focused on creating games within the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series.

Ubisoft is currently working on several games, including the long-awaited Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake. Ubisoft said earlier this month that the game was “deep” in development, thanking fans for sticking with the project, which has undergone multiple iterations.

The upcoming Ghost Recon game has yet to be confirmed, but Ubisoft has historically not left the series without an instalment for very long.
