ThePokemonshow being headed by Aardman Animations was just teased duringtoday’s Pokemon Presents. Here, we get our first look at some familiar faces in Aardman’s iconic style, as well as confirmation that the show will take us tothe Galar region.
Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu is coming in 2027. We have no specific release date, but this window does confirm that it will come after the second season of Pokemon Concierge.
This New Pokemon Show Follows Sirfetch’d And Pichu, And Is Set In The Galar Region
We already knew that Pokemon was collaborating with Aardman- the studio best known for Wallace & Gromit - but this is our first look at the show that it’s working on. Very fittingly, the UK-based animation studio has recretated the UK-inspired Galar region.
The show’s central duo can be seen running around and making a mess of things, although we never get a great look at them. Instead, we focus on an incredibly tranquil Wooloo, who is happy to just keep eating grass (later an apple, thanks to the shenanigans of Pichu and Sirfetch’d), no matter what is going on around them.
While the trailer didn’t give us many details, it does give us a tone. It also confirms that the central Pokemon will be two that are too often overlooked. Pichu is obviously outshined by Pikachu, and Sirfetch’d - a Galarian-exclusive evolution of Farfetch’d - isn’t one to typically make a fan’s top ten list.
It’s also great to see Galar getting some love. Many were excited to see a UK-inspired region when it was announced, but the game that let us explore it,Pokemon Sword & Shield, was overshadowed by the the so called Dexit controversy. The drama stemmed from Sword & Shield being the first game in the series not to include all of the Pokemon from previous generations, meaning that for once, we couldn’t actually catch ‘em all. The reason we got for this was that it would be too much work to animate and create models for all of the Pokemon, which raised everyone’s expectations for the game itself - expectations that were not met for many.
So, Pokemon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d and Pichu gives the Galar region another chance to shine, with Dexit long behind us. It will be with us at some point in 2027, and future trailers should give us a better idea of what it is about.
