It’s been over four years sinceGuilty Gear Strivefirst launched, and with Season 4 just about wrapping up, a lot of fans of the series have been wondering what’s next for the series. We know that Season 5 is on the way, but we’ve yet to hear anything about a new Guilty Gear game, with news mysteriously absent from Arc System Works' recent game showcase event.
New Guilty Gear Game Cancelled, According To Report
Turns out, the reason for Guilty Gear’s absence is potentially quite depressing, as it’s been reported that an in-development Guilty Gear game has been cancelled. This is according to Insider Gaming, which claims its “sources” have said a new Guilty Gear was cancelled within the last couple of weeks, though an exact reason was not given.
Those are all the details that this report gives, and how far along in development the game actually was isn’t mentioned. It’s possible that this cancelled Guilty Gear game could have been in very early production, meaning its cancellation probably isn’t a huge deal for Arc System Works. It also has Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on the horizon as well, so developing a new Guilty Gear alongside that may have been considered too much work for right now.
That is mostly conjecture on my part, but it’s also worth pointing out that Guilty Gear Strive is still doing pretty well at the moment, and its exciting crossover with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners should be dropping any day now. It still looks great, is still being supported, and fans don’t seem to be in a hurry for a new one, so it seems like a pretty harmless cancellation as long as nobody behind the scenes is suffering for it.
In fact, Marvel Tokon and this cancellation report are likely a sign that Guilty Gear Strive could be a couple of extra seasons, which will be more opportunities for your favorite character to make the cut. Then again, Elphelt Valentine is already in the game, and I personally don’t know why you’d want to play as anyone else.
