Summary
MultiVersus is getting ready to say, “That’s all, folks” for the final time, as it’s going offline for good in just a matter of hours. It seems that not many people are bothering to say goodbye, though.
Well folks, afterone of the rockiest journeys in all of gaming through multiple revivals and two end-of-service announcements, we’re finally at the end of the wild ride that is MultiVersus. Today, May 30,marks the final day that MultiVersus is going to be playable online, before being shut down for good and leaving only asingle-player shell of itself for anyone who downloads the final update before 5pm BST.
I’ve talked about MultiVersus at length on the site before andhave been one of its biggest defenders ever since it was announced, but this ending wassadly inevitable as soon as it was taken offline the first time. A comeback from that kind of announcement is nearly impossible even for the biggest games, and it seems that a lot of people aren’t even tuning in to see the game off for the final time.
MultiVersus Is About To Be Killed Again, But No One Is Tuning In To Say Bye
And It’s All Because We Never Got Daffy Duck
Although I’ve had the day of MultiVersus' death marked on my calendar with a big sad face for the past few months, it seems that the game’s curtain call isn’t doing much for its numbers. As of the time of writing,MultiVersus only has 423 players online according to SteamDB, which isn’t even close to its 24- hour peak of nearly 1,000.
You could argue that most players have already said goodbye instead of just doing it at the last minute like most people will when they’re reminded of the news, but it’s still not a significant increase considering the circumstances. That’s probably not a surprise considering how little point there is in playing a game that’s about to be taken out back.
It’s worth remembering that Steam is just one console base, although I struggled to find a match when I quickly jumped into the PS5 version to see how it’s shaking out.
Of course,MultiVersus has struggled with a lower-than-expected player count ever since it relaunched last year, so it’s a little poetic that things haven’t changed before its true end. Even still, verify to keep MultiVersus and Reindog in your thoughts today as we approach the finish line for the final time. I’ll miss you, buddy.
