Magic: The Gathering’s next Secret Lairwill bring the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog to the TCG. As is usually the case with Secret Lair drops, each one will include a mystery bonus card. However, a little bit of that mystery has been removed in this case as the bonus cards waiting to be discovered in Sonic’s Secret Lair have been revealed ahead of time.

That’s likely because these bonus cards come with an unexpected twist. There will be two bonus cards waiting to be discovered in Sonic’s Secret Lair -a Master Emerald Shrine Command Tower, and a Chaos Emerald Lotus Petal. While there’s only one version of the Master Emerald card waiting to be discovered, there are seven variants of the Chaos Emerald card to collect.

There have been seven Chaos Emeralds to collect in various Sonic games since the series' inception in 1991. Once you have all seven, Sonic can turn into Super Sonic. Even though it’s often pretty challenging to get all seven in the games, trying to find one of each color in Magic: The Gathering is going to be even harder.

But finding all of them by yourself will be almost impossible

There will be three Sonic Secret Lair drops on July 14. If you manage to bag yourself one of each, since there’s only one bonus card in every drop, that’s three of the seven Chaos Emeralds, at best. That’s if you’re lucky enough to find different variants. You could end up with three identical Chaos Emeralds, or no Chaos Emeralds at all if the Master Emerald bonus card shows up in all three of your drops.

Not only does that mean getting a full collection of Chaos Emerald cards is going to be very difficult and incredibly expensive, but they’ll likely end up becoming very valuable very quickly. The Sonic Secret Lairs will, almost certainly, sell out pretty quickly. That means waiting for your packs to arrive, opening them, and then going back for more to try and get the bonus cards you need won’t be an option.

If you’re dead set on owning one of each Chaos Emerald variant, you’ll likely need to resort to buying them from collectors who are willing to sell. On the flip side, if you don’t care about owning every Chaos Emerald card and you’re happy with just one, but you’ve wound up with multiples, there will be people out there who are likely willing to pay you quite a lot of money for the cards you don’t want.
