A first look at the newly revealedMagic: The Gatheringcollection, Secret Lair xSonic, has just been released thanks to three exclusive reveals fromGame Informer,IGN, andVariety. Sonic fans will get to fight with scalpers and bots for a chance to purchase them next month.

MTG crossovers come in two flavors: Secret Lairs and full booster sets. Some crossovers get both, like the recent Final Fantasy collaboration, while other crossovers release in small direct-to-consumer sets. Wizards of the Coast has been releasing many crossovers lately, full of fan-service galore.

As If MTG Didn’t Have Enough Crossovers Already, Sonic Is Joining The Lineup

And We’ve Already Got A Good Look At What’s To Come

The first drop, revealed by IGN, is Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear and features six existing cards with new artwork and themes matching the Sonic universe. As the name suggests, there are plenty of Sonic-themed equipment cards including Sonic’s shoes, Knuckles’ gloves, and the Piko Hammer.

The second set was revealed by Game Informer: Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure and shows off a few reimagined sorceries and instants like Sol Ring, Fabricate, and my favorite, Treasure, which is just a giant gold ring set against a Green Hill Zone backdrop.

The third set, Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes, was revealed by Variety and as you’re able to guess, is a collection of Sonic Characters (and yes, Sonic does have Haste).

According to the product descriptionreleased by Variety, “This drop features seven new designs that bring the amazing Sonic the Hedgehog characters to life. Wizards of the Coast paired the new card designs with original art, including some from fan-favorite Sonic artists doing their first-ever work for Magic: The Gathering cards.”

This Sonic collection is coming in three separate drops and retailing for $29.99 ($39.99 for the foil versions) onthe Magic: Secret Lair page. All three sets release on July 14th at 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT.

While most of the collections are revealed in advance,Secret Lair setsoften contain a rare bonus card, making it difficult to complete the set and are often a hot item for the reselling market. These sets are also timed releases, so when they sell out, you’ll have to contend with the secondary market (a TCG players' least favorite pastime.)

Secret Lair collections range wildly, from fan-service likeMy Little Pony, to the strangely fitting Bob Ross land artwork collection, to other artist collaborations likeJohannes Vossandkelogsloops. Avatar: The Last Airbender is the next full crossover andjust released a few visual spoilersto obsess over.
