The previously announcedMortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection for consoles may be coming out in late September, according to an accidental leak on theXboxApp following a routine update.
Digital Eclipse’s Kollection, which includes Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 4, Mortal Kombat: Advance and more, was announced earlier in the year by Editorial Director Chris Kohler. At the time of the announcement, Kohler said, “As you might imagine, we get a lot of requests from fans, and for many years now, the overwhelming number-one request has been…‘MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAAAAT!'“in a PlayStation Blog announcement in June.
The announcement was a way of giving back to the fans, Kohler explained then, boasting Digital Eclipse’s focus on restoring vintage titles for modern platforms. Unfortunately, he didn’t provide that all important release date though.
This is where the Xbox App leak comes in, as a now deleted page for the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, complete with a release date, has been found (thanksEurogamer). Thanks to fans who are quick on the screenshot trigger, a Twitter post has revealed screenshots from the Xbox App page revealing a full title description, plus the leaked release date.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Will Arrive On September 30 Says Xbox Leak
Fans had previously forecast Digital Eclipse’s big release date reveal to go down at Evo 2025, considering the event’s prominence in the fighting game community. But now, fans are expecting them to get ahead of the leak and announce it. AReddit threadthat has sprung up after the leak has fans going wild regarding the release date, with fans speculating on how Digital Eclipse will stifle the leak.
The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection description suggests fans can play through the entire original MK storyline as creator Ed Boon intended with the original arcade releases, and without the multi-universal antics included duringMK1’s narrative. For the biggest MK fanatics in the room, the Kollection will also include a slew of deep behind-the-scenes content that will show how the first games in the series were developed, complete with commentary from the creation team of Mortal Kombat.
As of right now, there has been no official announcement regarding Legacy Kollection’s release date, so fans should take the September 30 release with a grain of salt until Digital Eclipse says otherwise.
