Yesterday’sMortal Kombat 2trailer finally gave usa proper look at Johnny Cageas he’s introduced to the deadly tournament. Along with Carl Urban’s portrayal of the washed up actor, we got a munch of new faces as well. Baraka, Sindel, Shao Kahn, and Bi-Han as Noob Saibot will join the cast of the first movie, includingeveryone’s most hated character. However, all the talk seems to be about one of the other new characters, Jade.
In Mortal Kombat lore, which is convoluted to say the least, Jade is Princess Kitana’s bodyguard, as well as a close friend. At times, she has also played a body double for the princess. Her most recognisable features are her green garb and bo staff, with the rest evolving over the generations. However, some fans aren’t happy with her being bald in Mortal Kombat 2.
Mortal Kombat 2’s Jade Is Bald And Some People Don’t Like That
Jade is being played by Tati Gabrielle, who most of you would have recognised as Nora in season two of HBO’sThe Last of Us, and as the protagonist for Naughty Dog’s upcomingIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In all these productions, Gabrielle has been bald, either by choice or due to the overlapping schedules – it really doesn’t matter.
While the trailer looks great, and Carl Urban looks out of place in more ways than one, the Mortal Kombat subreddit can’t stop harping on the fact that Jade is bald. Apparently, the character whose trademarks are green clothes and a bo staff is unrecognizable because she’s bald.
From simply complaining about it, tocomparing her to D’Vorah, and even photoshopping hair onto her character, there are all sorts of posts complaining about the character’s lack of hair, like it’s going to make any difference to the plot. As with all such petty complaints, there areposts making fun of them, and evenjokingly asking why Baraka and Jax are bald.
Todd Garner, the producer of the movie has even said that there’s a reason behind Jade’s look. “They need to watch the movie to see if it makes sense and to know that there is a plan for her as the franchise continues,“he said on Twitter.
