Summary
Despite oodles of hopium, as well asword from Ed Boon himself regarding long-term support, it’s been confirmed thatMortal Kombat 1will no longer receive additional DLC in the form of characters or story chapters.
In an official statement posted to the Mortal Kombat Twitter account, NetherRealm acknowledged “players’ requests for continued game support,” but noted that outside of balance adjustments and fixes, there would be no further content.
Friday’s update puts to bed what many fans had already come to expect, asit was revealed last week that MK1 would be getting a “Definitive Edition,” an almost guaranteed sign that content was complete. That announcementdidn’t sit particularly well with fans, especially considering that,as recently as last September, Boon shared that “NetherRealm is still fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come.”
NetherRealm Will Shift Its Focus To Its Next Unnamed Project
In a follow-up post, it was shared that NetherRealm will shift its focus to its next project in “order to make it as great as we possibly can.”
While the project wasn’t named,it was previously reported that Injustice 3 would be the next title from NetherRealm. A reliable leaker hinted as much, and a new Injustice would make sense as the next game to release.
Either way, Friday’s news marks an unfortunate end to a game that debuted with a lot of promise, butquickly got in its own way with microtransactions. Later DLC, such asHomelanderandlater Ghostfacehelped reignite interest, butcanceled DLC plans, plus a seemingly out of nowhere “Definitive Edition” crushed things once more. Rest in peace, MK1.
