Summary
Mortal Kombat 1players really aren’t happy that the game’s post-launch support is seemingly already over since a Definitive Edition is being released, especially after being promised “years” of content.
BeforeMortal Kombat1 released, it was on a fast track to be one of the most exciting games to come from NetherRealm in a long while. The rebooted timeline, focus on bringing back 3D era characters, and unique Kameo mechanic all made Mortal Kombat 1 seem like a big reinvention for the series, and one that the studio had a lot of faith in and plans for.
That’s not exactly what ended up happening, though. At launch,Mortal Kombat 1 was slammed for its “predatory” microtransactions and lack of modes, with most fans seeming disappointed with the series' new direction. Over many updates, that negative reception changed and it looked likeMortal Kombat 1 might end up redeeming itself with more time and DLC, something that we sadly won’t get to see now.
Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Are Gutted About The Definitive Edition
Guess We’ll Never See Chucky Or Invincible
Yesterday,Warner Bros. announced that Mortal Kombat 1 will be getting a Definitive Edition re-release soon, suggesting that the game’s post-launch DLC support has come to a close after less than two years. This was already rumoured to be the case for some time, but it was never outright confirmed by NetherRealm, leading some to believeplans had changed after the Floyd update reignited a lot of interest.
Now we know for sure that isn’t going to be happening, Mortal Kombat fans aremaking their annoyanceveryknown over on the game’s subredditand across social media.Take this popular post by Redditor cringewhiteboy for example, which points out that MK1 “JUST f**king came out” and is already finished, lasting less time than even the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game.
Other fans have pointed out that Ed Boon recently praised how well the game is selling, and that he also promised “years” of DLC support for Mortal Kombat 1 that never came to pass. While I’m sure that Boon is just as unhappy about it as MK fans are, it was a bold claim that the gamewould be supported for longer than any other NetherRealm title.
Remember whenEd Boon said we could end up getting guest character Kameos? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The annoyance with how Mortal Kombat 1 has been handled since it launched has even got some fans labelling it as the worst game in the series (it’s definitely not),or saying that they won’t bother pre-ordering whatever NRS does next. It’s a sad end for a game that was just finding its footing, and one that seems to have really hit the Mortal Kombat community hard.
