It’s safe to say, given the hype around the title and its stellar start, which saw itsell eight million copies in just three days, nobody could have foreseen the struggles thatMonster Hunter Wildshas faced.
In just under three months, the game lost 98 percent of its players, falling to’Overwhelmingly Negative' reviews on Steamin the process. Wilds had been plagued with game-breaking issues on PC since launch, andan update in June only made things worse, ensuring the game’s player reviews sank further and further. The game now sits with a ‘Mixed’ rating on the Valve-owned platform, but its recent reviews remain ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’.
The game’s plight seems to have continued last quarter, too, withCapcom’s latest financial reportsrevealing that EIGHT games sold more copies than Wilds over that period.
Eight Capcom Titles Sold Better Than Monster Hunter Wilds Between April And June
Between April and June 2025, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477,000 copies. It’s a solid number, with the game alreadyhaving reached ten million units sold by the end of March. Unfortunately, that figure pales in comparison to many of Capcom’s other titles, some of which are more than 13 years old.
FourResident Evilgames made the list, with 2, 4, 7, and Village each outselling Monster Hunter Wilds, alongsideStreet Fighter 6, which released on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 6, and Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition,Devil May Cry 5, and Devil May Cry HD Collection, which initially released in April 2012. Interestingly,Monster Hunter Risesold under 100,000 fewer units than Wilds, despite having sold seven million more total over its lifespan.

In its report, Capcom shared that Devil May Cry 5 broke the ten million unit lifetime sales mark this quarter, attributing the sales increase of this, plus the other titles in the Devil May Cry series, to “synergies with the newly released anime series.” It also said that Resident Evil Franchise sales “continued to grow steadily following the announcement of Resident Evil Requiem, the latest title in the series.”
Of course, there’s likely no cause for panic at Capcom. Wilds is still going to be the company’s best-selling game of the year to date. It’s just unlikely it would have expected this much of a drop-off.
