Monster Hunter Worldwas a behemoth when it launched in 2018. Skyrocketing to become Capcom’s most successful game ever, there was no stopping it, especially after its PC release and Iceborne expansion. It’s easily one of the most beloved games of all time. However, despite topping the sales of World, Monster Hunter Wilds has been having a rough time.
Capcom’s strategy of launching the game on all platforms on one day worked out, as the player count and salesreached new heights for Capcom. Unfortunately, theglitchy performance left a bad taste in the mouth, even for those with decent PCs. Theplayer count has been steadily dropping, and it seems a recent update has increased performance issues, leading to its review score on Steam plummeting.
Monster Hunter Wilds Is Having A Wild Time
Monster Hunter Wilds players have been complaining about these issues since launch, so their frustration is understandable when the recent update only made things worse. As things stand right now, the game has an overall Mixed rating onSteamwith 136,471 reviews, but the Recent Reviews tab, featuring 6,540 of them is at Mostly Negative.
“There’s a bunch of mechanics that I wish were different, but my main gripe is the performance,” said one of the recent Steam reviews. “With each title update the game runs worse and worse. My first rig wasn’t low end and I had framerate issues constantly, now I just built a top of the line rig and it still runs about the same?”
“The gameplay is good, but that’s it,” said another. “It’s way too easy and runs poorly even on good hardware. Monsters considered “hard” last around 10 mins max, regular monsters usually die in 4-5 mins. Relying on Frame Gen, Upscaling and mods to get decent frames… it’s a joke. They push collabs (that are paywalled mostly) and micro transactions before optimization or balance.”
Capcom did address the initial backlash to the game’s performance, but it never got completely fixed. To add to that, it seems the latest update has somehow made things worse. Perhaps a hotfix is underway.
