2025 may not see the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 like we were all hoping, but it’s still been an absolutely massive year for gaming.Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2,Split Fiction,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a ton more releases have shot up the charts as some of the best-reviewed games of the year. There’s one game that’s had a bit of trouble staying up so high, though.

When Monster Hunter Wilds launched in February,it was a massive success with record-breaking player counts and sales, incredibly positive reviews, and ageneral sense that it was a strong step forward for Monster Hunter’s future. While it did have some issues, nobody could have predicted quite how far it’d fall in some players' eyes.

Monster Hunter Wilds Has Fallen To Overwhelmingly Negative Reviews On Steam

“What A Let Down Compared To World”

Last week,we reported that Monster Hunter Wilds had dropped to “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steamafter its latest updates only made some of its issues worse. Well, that now seems like a kind fate for it, asWilds has since dropped to an even worse “Overwhelmingly Negative"recent reviews tag.

Over on Steam, you can see that after 9,000 recent reviews, Wilds is now sitting at a shocking Overwhelmingly Negative status. The reviews have even impacted the overall score, which is now “Mixed” after so many review bombs.Considering Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the highest-rated games of 2025, it’s quite a fall from grace.

Monster Hunter Wilds has even seen a drop in its Steam playercount,as World currently has more concurrent players after all of the backlash.

So, what’s the big reason for all of the negative reviews? Well, just like it was when the game dropped to “Mostly Negative”,the reviews seem to be most annoyed about the game’s performance on PC. It’s always had a fair bit of trouble running on most PCs due to its optimisation issues, but many are claiming that it’s getting worse and worse with each update.

It seems that the PC player base for Monster Hunter Wilds has simply reached its limit of what it can accept in terms of performance, especially with Capcom continuing to update the game but not fix its biggest problems. Here’s hoping that can be fixed now that so many players have voiced their annoyance about the issues.
