A Minecraft Movie achieved obscene levels of viral fame earlier this year for a variety of reasons. Right at the top of that list was its Chicken Jockey, and a notch below it, the Steve’s Lava Chicken song performed by Jack Black, which I’m assuming he made up on the spot. That song has finally found its way into the game, but before you can hear it, you’ll need to find a Chicken Jockey.
Spotted byDexerto,Steve’s Lava Chicken was added toMinecraftvia the recent 1.21.94 Bedrock update. It’s not the Jack Black version, but rather an 8-bit cover by Hyper Potions, which, after having the original playing on repeat in my car for the past three months thanks to my five-year-old son, is a welcome change, although still almost as annoying after being subjected to the Billboard 100 hit so many times already.
Yes,Steve’s Lava Chicken made it into the charts. In fact, it now holds the record for the shortest song to ever make it into the US charts.
Steve’s Lava Chicken has made the jump from the Minecraft movie to the Minecraft game
It’s tasty as hell
The song is on a disc that you will be able to play to your heart’s content once discovered, but to find it, you’re going to need to find and slay a Chicken Jockey. I was not aware until my son explained to me this morning that Chicken Jockeys seldom show up in Minecraft. When a zombie spawns, it has a less than one percent chance of being a Chicken Jockey. I looked that last part up. My son’s math skills aren’t that hot yet, even when it comes to calculating Minecraft spawn rates.
That makes finding Steve’s Lava Chicken a little tricky, although there are practices you may do to up your chances of stumbling across a Chicken Jockey. Despite those odds, some of you think the method to unlock the song is too simple. In the YouTube Short you can check out below, one player argues that to unlock the song, you should have to defeat the Chicken Jockey using lava, as that fits the theme of the song.
A Minecraft Movie was a smash hit, unlike almost anything the video game adaptation industry has ever seen before. Jack Black’s blocky adventure fell just short of cracking the $1 billion barrier, making it the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever afterThe Super Mario Bros. Movie. It also held on to the title of highest-grossing movie of the yearbefore it was recently surpassed by Lilo & Stitch.
