Things have been bad forMindEyefrom the start. When the negative reviews started to pour in,CEO Mark Gerhard said that it was a paid effort to trash the game. Thegame was a broken mess, withPlayStation even beginning to issue refunds. However, it looks like things are about to get much worse for developer Build a Rocket Boy.
According toIGN, an anonymous source has revealed that the studio has announced that it will go through a massive round of layoffs that could affect over 100 employees. While the exact number of people being laid off isn’t yet known, UK law requires a 45-day consultation process when firing over 100 employees within a 90-day period, which starts today.
MindsEye Studio Might Undergo Massive Layoffs
According to the report, Build a Rocket Boy has around 300 employees in the UK, and around 200 working abroad. Considering how things are playing out, employees will have to anxiously wait to find out their fate. It’s unclear what this means about the game’s proposed roadmap as well.
Based on all the drama during launch, it isn’t surprising that MindsEye currently holds the title ofworst rated game in 2025with a Metacritic score of just 43. The player count is dismal, with itsconcurrent player count sitting at a low 260 last week. Despite all the drama, it seems no one was even curious enough to see what all the fuss was about.
To add insult to injury, the $59.99 priced game wasfound in a Walmart clearance sale rack for just $20. It seems nobody is even mildly interested in checking out the game. However, it should be noted that despite those numbers 2.6 percent of players have managed to get Platinum Trophies in MindsEye.
In fact, things became so desperate for the studio that it looked like they wereallegedly using bots to leave positive reviews for the game. This was flagged after several reviews featured the exact same text. However, Build a Rocket Boy has denied doing so.
