MindsEyehas had a rough launch, and unlikeCyberpunk 2077, it doesn’t look like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Things continue to go from bad to worse for the maligned Build A Rocket Boy title as the studio has now been forced to address accusations that it has been using bots to leave positive reviews across social media.

OutsideXbox’s Mike Channellappears to have been among the first to flag the positive comments, each of them identical and filled with glowing praise for MindsEye. “I’m loving the story, simulation theory - ancient al. Only had a few bugs but others haven’t been so lucky. Reminds me of how Cyberpunk launched,” read two comments that are exactly the same, word for word.

Two identical comments might not be enough to convince some people, but it doesn’t stop there.GLHF’s Kirk McKeand, formerly of TheGamer, replied to Channell’s post questioning whether bots are out there leaving positive reviews for MindsEye with even more damning evidence. Search for the words MindsEye and goosebumps on Twitter, and you’ll be met with a list of posts that all say more or less the same thing. Unlike Channell’s examples, these are worded slightly differently on each occasion, but it still seems pretty likely they’ve been posted by bots.

So much so that Build A Rocket Boy has felt compelled to respond. “Taking a minute to set the record straight and refute this, and other false claims that are swirling,” a reply fromBuild A Rocket Boy’s Twitter accountreads. “BARB has never used any bots nor will we. We’re pumped to see players loving the latest MindsEye update,” signing off with a #NoBots hashtag, just to hammer home the message.

If the reviews and the replies are bots, then it could be the work of anybody, of course. There are people out there who like MindsEye, and some of those people may have taken it upon themselves to set up the alleged bots. There’s also the rank outside chance that these aren’t bots at all, which, while incredibly unlikely, seems to be what the team at Build A Rocket Boy is choosing to believe.

Bots or not, the studio will be grabbing whatever wins it can find amid MindsEye’s woeful first week. Within a day of the new game’s release, there were reports of PlayStation waiving its refund policyand giving players their money back, something it hasn’t done for a major game since Cyberpunk. MindsEye also has the unwanted accolade of beingthe lowest-rated game of 2025 so far.
