WhenMindsEyelaunched, we didn’t have any pre-launch reviews. However, the reviews were going to come in eventually, and now, there are enough to give the game an average score on Metacritic.

Right now, MindsEye has a Metacritic score of just 43, based on the six reviews that have come out so far. That’s enough to make it the most poorly received game of 2025 so far, and it’s unlikely that further reviews will boost the score much more than this.

The MindsEye Reviews Are In, And It Has The Lowest Scores Of The Year

Looking at the review scores forall of the 2025 game releases so far, we can see that MindsEye takes last place by one point, sitting behind Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator. It’s even worse on the user score front, as it currently sits on 2.5 on Metacritic and mostly negative reviews on Steam.

MindsEye is the first game from the studio Build A Rocket Boy, which was founded by former GTA producer Leslie Benzies. However, it’s been clear that this would not be a smooth launch since the previews dropped, as co-CEO Mark Gerhardaccused the critics of being paid off by other studios to “trash” the game. This might explain why we didn’t get any pre release reviews, and are only seeing them come out now.

In case you were wondering, the best-reviewed game of 2025 so far is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

When players got their hands on the game, it only got worse. MindsEyeimmediately launched to negative user reviews, and it didn’t take long forPlayStation to start granting refunds. It remains to be seen if any storefronts outright delist the game, as Cyberpunk 2077 was temporarily due to the backlash over its own performance issues, but in any case, the damage to its reputation is done.

Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, this isn’t just a case of fixing some bugs and improving the performance. Negative reviews are also critical of the narrative, withGamesRadar+describing it as “resoundingly disappointing”, andGamereactor UKgoing as far as labelling it “unimaginative and generic”.

“We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended,” reads a statementput out by the studio after launch. “Our priority is optimising performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience.
