Summary

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the nextMass Effectgame. There have even been fears that the project might be in danger following the lukewarm performance ofDragon Age: The Veilguard. That’s why something as simple as an emoji from the director working on the project has left a lot of Mass Effect fans feeling equal parts excited and relieved.

Other than the next Mass Effect ever seeing the light of day, the biggest concern fans have is that it remains faithful to the original trilogy. With good reason, too, asAndromeda, the Mass Effect follow-up that many have opted to pretend doesn’t exist, ventured a little too far from what made Mass Effect great to be considered a true sequel by most fans.

Despite still knowing next to nothing about the next Mass Effect, some are already hoping and praying for minor details to make the jump from the original trilogy. “Mass Effect 5 better stick to tradition and have an excessive amount of lens flare,“Spectre_Grayposted on Twitter. Clearly, Mass Effect director Michel Gamble is keeping an eye on what people are saying about the games, as despite not being tagged, they saw the post and replied.

As It Stands, There Will Be More Mass Effect

And That Means More Lens Flare

Gamble quoted the tweet and replied with an okay emoji, strongly implying that yes, there will be an egregious amount of lens flare in Mass Effect 5, or whatever the next Mass Effect game will be called. Alongside the fans celebrating the return of a notable artistic decision in the series' next game, many asked Gamble if it annoys him that people continue to refer to the next game as Mass Effect 5, even though it technically won’t be.

It’s all a little confusing in that regard. While Andromeda was the fourth game, it takes place in a far flung Mass Effect future. The next game seemingly goes back in time to an era that takes place shortly after the events of the original trilogy. My guess is that it won’t be a numbered title, but that Gamble doesn’t have an issue with it being referred to as Mass Effect 5 until we get an official name for the next game.

We kind of already knew that the next game will have lens flare. One of the only teasers we have seen so far, which was shared in December 2020, shows Liara looking off into the distance, and the shot includes plenty of lens flare. As for when we will be able to play it ourselves,BioWare was hiring for the next Mass Effectas recently as last month, so it’s probably still a long way off.
