While most fighting game fans are firmly looking forward toMarvel Tokon Fighting Souls, theupcoming 4v4 tag fighter from Arc System Works that was revealed during last month’s PlayStation State of Play, there are those of us who still have faith that a newMarvel vs. Capcomgame could eventually come out.

After all, it’s beennearly a decade since Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite was released back in 2017. Speaking of Infinite, the game receiveda massive 35GB patch over seven years after its final patch went live. Even stranger, no one knows why.

As first spotted by MP1st, Infinite received its first patch since June 24, 2025, on Monday, a gap of over seven years. Naturally, those who were still playing the gamewere confused about the update’s contents or what exactly was being “updated,“especially given the package size.

Some fans immediately pointed to the update being related to theMarvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond fan mod that adds new modes, music, plus an overhauled art style. The project, which was released in 2024,was spearheaded by fighting game content creator Maximilian Dood.

However, while an update to bork the mod doesn’t seem too farfetched, Maximilian took to Twitter to share that the only parts being impacted at the moment are the extra playable modes. Still, it’s unclear if that patch was ever even intended to mess with things. Talk about large amounts of confusion.
