Summary
Deadpoolused to be theMarvelcharacter who was left out of the movies, but that has long since changed. Now he’s the one who has been missing from video games for more than a decade, other than the odd cameo appearance. Thankfully, that’s about to change, too.
FromMarvel Tokon: Fighting Soulsto Arkane’s Blade, there are a lot of Marvel games in the works right now. However, despite the Merc with a Mouth’s blockbuster success, none of them feature Deadpool. It was revealed duringSummer Game Festthat the red and black-clad anti-hero will now be joining the growing slate of Marvel titles in development as he’s now the star of his very own VR game.
The aptly-namedMarvel’s Deadpool VRputs you in hero’s lycra, and gives you the voice of Neil Patrick Harris who, I’m sure you’ll agree after watching the trailer, is a fantastic choice to play the role of Deadpool in this new game. Deadpool VR is being developed by Twisted Pixel, and it will beavailable exclusively on theMeta Quest 3before the end of 2025.
Deadpool Is Getting His Very Own VR Game
The Master Of Breaking The Fourth Wall Is About To Become The Fourth Wall
Deadpool is best known for a few things, including crude humor, egregious violence, and the ability to gently tap the fourth wall. Based on the little we’ve seen so far from its reveal trailer, the devs behind Deadpool VR have managed to bring all of that into the game. Harris’s Deadpool is very aware he is being controlled by someone who is sort of wearing his skin thanks to the VR nature of the game, and as for the humor, my favorite part is the line aboutSpider-MangettingInsomniacwhile Deadpool “gets this sh*t”.
As for the violence, that was on show more than anything during Deadpool’s Summer Game Fest announcement. There’s a moment where the anti-hero is shoving a villain’s face into a spinning blade, and another when you are left on the table as a decapitated head, presumably still controlling your body as you watch it fight. The logistics of how I’m going to need to move the VR controllers to get that done are making my head hurt, but I’m very much here for it.
While not shown in the trailer, there’s also been mention of players having to use Deadpool’s severed arm to beat people with.
While no other iconic Marvel characters were shown off in the trailer, Twisted Pixel has promised you will be facing off against some well-known Marvel villains, and a few lesser-known ones too, probably baddies Deadpool will mock for being relative unknowns. Deadpool VR launches later this year, with more details to come between now and launch.
