Marvel Rivalshas introduced another generation of fans to these iconic comic book characters, which means we’re seeing some fresh perspectives in the fanbase. Naturally, this means that a bunch of characters are getting shipped together, even if they have hardly interacted in the comics or even the movies.
One such pairing is betweenMantisandLoki. While there were a few shippers before Marvel Rivals launched, the pairing has exploded in popularity since then, with the community producing fanfics and fan art of the couple. Now, Loki x Mantis truthers have something to celebrate, because it looks like Marvel Rivals is leaning into the idea of them as a couple inits next update.
Marvel Rivals Has Basically Given Us A Loki X Mantis Fanfic
This was spotted by those who got early access to Marvel Rivals' Season 3.5 update,which adds Blade as a playable character. It also gives us a team-up ability, Vibrant Vitality, in which Mantis gives Loki and Groot new supportive abilities.
Every team-up comes with new lore - a short write-up explaining how the team-up came about. Sometimes, this is presented through some dialogue between those in the team-up, and that’s exactly what we’re getting with Vibrant Vitality.
Here, Mantis and Loki both get a little flirty with one another, agreeing that they look great in green. Groot plays wingman, saying that Loki and Mantis have a “divine connection” (which we know because both Mantis and Loki can understand what he’s saying).
Loki, ever the charmer, delivers this line to try and seal the deal with Mantis: “‘Tis my nature to use others, but your purity speaks to me. Perhaps we can be…more…”. We don’t know what happens next, but Groot calls Mantis out for blushing, so take that for what you will.
Needless to say, Loki x Mantis shippers are delighted. This is a pretty strong indicator that the Marvel Rivals devs have seen their passion for this unlikely couple, which means we could see the in-game lore reference them beyond this one interaction. The devs have the benefit of Marvel Rivals being about all these different versions of characters coming together from across the multiverse, so they don’t have to play by the rules of the source material.
There’s a whole of lore to dive into in Marvel Rivals, explaining why each character is here and why they work together. For example, some info we get about Iron Man reveals that Ultron is only playing nice because Tony Starkthreatened to delete all of Ultron’s memories of his father. Wow.
