The honeymoon period forMarvel Rivalsplayers may finally be over. While it lasted longer than most, it seems that a series of issues has resulted in players either falling off or simply not enjoying the game anymore. But don’t take my word for it, even theSteam reviews for the game have dropped to “Mixed"after a lackluster season two.

It seems theonce steady player counthas started swaying due to a number of reasons.Character balance and matchmakingseem to be the biggest issues that players have complained about, but an excess of currencies, time-locked events and constantly helping meta aren’t helping either. In fact, even ads for the game are making fans cringe.

Marvel Rivals Has Some Cringeworthy Ads

Over on the game’s subreddit, players are trashing one of Marvel Rivals' latest ad, with the OPAdamoO_going as far as to say it’s the worst ads they’ve ever seen. It features a vertical splitscreen of someone who we assume is supposed to be a streamer or generic player making lame quips and cringeworthy jokes as they play Star-Lord in the screen below.

It’s almost as if the people who made the ad have never seen a gamer in their life and decided that this is just how all of us talk. It’s like when early-2000’s movies used to show all hackers in black trenchcoats and sunglasses, saying “I’m in!” when they hack the CIA website.

“This ad looks like a fake mobile game,” said one comment, which is ironic because NetEase does make a lot of mobile games. “This does make me want to play the game less,” said another. “This is like reverse advertising. Instead of getting you interested in the product, it makes you feel gross for ever touching the product. I’m sorry that I ever played this game,” felt another player.

Believe it or not, this isn’t even the worst Marvel Rivals ad that NetEase has put out. Back in March, we reported on aMarvel Rivals TikTok ad which that was called up by The Ad Standards Community Panel for promoting sexual violence against women. It featured Invisible Woman in her Malice skin, leaning backwards, with the words “ABUSE HER This Season” written on top of it. While gamers will know what it’s supposed to mean, the poor choice of words caught a lot of attention.
