It might feel like Season 3 ofMarvel Rivalshas only just started, but we’re already preparing for Season 3.5. We’ve got the upcoming release of Blade, who is, unfortunately, a Duelist, along with various new team-ups to try out, all of which were shown off during a new dev blog whichwas released on the Marvel Rivals YouTube channel earlier today.

It was a much shorter dev talk this time around, as balance changes are taking a bit longer to sort out this time, but some interesting new features were revealed, specifically when it comes to the overall health of the game. For starters, Marvel Rivals will soon start monitoring voice chats for toxic behavior, most likely dishing out bans for any infringements, while players will also soon be able to mute specific words.

However, one of the more interesting new changes is to the game’s ranked mode, as Marvel Rivals is seemingly attempting to solve one of the mode’s biggest problems. Starting next season, if you deliberately leave a ranked match and abandon all of your teammates like the true coward you are, you will be punished a lot more severely.

Marvel Rivals Will Start Punishing Leavers More Heavily In Season 3.5

In the video, Marvel Rivals creative director Guangguang says that he knows that it can be “frustrating” to have people leave in the middle of a competitive match, and even more frustrating for those that stick it out to the end and still lose points. To try and stop this from happening, Marvel Rivals will now start dishing out longer bans from ranked, as well as bigger points deductions.

Additionally, those that do soldier on to the end of the match will get some “point compensation” for their trouble, though we don’t know what that looks like right now, and it will actually be easier to surrender in matches too, with fewer votes required.

Finally, it’s just a fact that sometimes someone will leave a match for less nefarious reasons, such as a disconnect or crash, and Marvel Rivals will apparently review these situations and handle the penalties “fairly”. All in all, it sounds like a much-needed change is coming to ranked, and hopefully, we’ll start seeing fewer leavers in Season 3.5.
