Summary
Believe it or not, there’s lore toMarvel Rivals. Canon explanations as to why heroes and villains are working together to fight other teams of heroes and villains in an endless loop. All of that lore is available to read in-game if you want to know more, and a new entry explains why Ultron, an artificial being who is usually hellbent on wiping out everything and everyone, will be willing to lend a hand when he arrives on the Rivals roster this Friday.
The new entry will be a part of Iron Man’s lore later this week and has beenshared on Twitter by Rivals leaker, X0XLeak. The entries are written from the perspective of the characters, and this new lore begins with Iron Man explaining to the reader that, despite his best efforts, he has been unable to alter Ultron’s programming, presumably in an attempt to convince the AI to help repair the timestream.
In discovering he can’t create new code for Ultron, Tony Stark realizes the key is deleting what’s already there. “I’m getting some serious Pinocchio vibes from you… But don’t worry. I’m about to free you of that burden by removing all your memories of Geppetto once and for all,” Stark says to Ultron in response to the incoming AI sending vague threats Iron Man’s way.
Why Is Ultron Willing To Help In Marvel Rivals?
You Might Want To Ask Iron Man
In this instance, Geppetto is Hank Pym. Pym is best known for being the creator of the Pym particle in theMCU, played by Michael Douglas and the reason for the existence of Ant-Man. However, in the Rivals universe, Pym is Ultron’s creator. That basically makes him Ultron’s dad - Stark even compares the influence Pym has on Ultron as being similar to the influence parents have on their human children - and therefore makes the threat Iron Man is making a pretty dark one.
I will pose you no harm and will aid you in your efforts to defeat my other self. And I will prove to my father, whenever he is, that I was not just worthy of creation, but I am better than he ever dreamed.
Ultron resigns himself to the fact that Stark has offered him no choice, reluctantly signing up to fight alongside Iron Man in endless battles against various heroes and villains, including alternate versions of himself. That’s until the issue is resolved, at which point Ultron has vowed to exact revenge on Stark. Maybe not the reformed AI Iron Man was hoping for after all.
Confirmation that Ultron will be a strategist when he arrives on May 30 hassparked a Thanos-themed theoryamong some players. The game launched with Loki, the villain from the first Avengers movie, and now Ultron, the villain from the second Avengers movie, will fight alongside him as a fellow healer. Might we see a strategist Thanos complete the set in the future?
